NuPrime UDSD DAC/Headphone Amplifier
PORTABLE, USB POWERED DAC/AMPLIFIER THAT DECODES PCM384 & DSD256, GIVING YOU OUTSTANDING SOUND FOR ALL YOUR HIGH-RESOLUTION MUSIC FILES.
A DAC, a headphone amplifier and a preamp in one easy to use portable device. The NuPrime uDSD connects your personal computer to your home stereo, desktop sound system and headphones. The uDSD features direct DAC out, i.e., fixed-analog out, in order to provide better overall sound quality, and in particular, better-sounding DSD playback. The headphone circuit, built on a sophisticated balanced design, provides the uDSD with the ability to drive almost any of today's headphones -- a feature that can also be used to drive active speakers. This makes the NuPrime uDSD incredibly versatile and powerful allowing you to enjoy your music to the fullest.
The uDSD is capable of supporting up to DSD256 and PCM384 with incredible specifications offering the highest quality sound. Compared to similar DACs in the marketplace, the uDSD has far greater capability and improved sound and it comes in a beautiful jewel-like enclosure. The uDSD is one portable DAC and headphone amp you will want to experience for yourself.
The NuPrime uDSD is a next generation desktop DAC/amplifier and is often compared to the NuForce uDAC which many audio enthusiasts have loved for years. If you want to enjoy the latest in high resolution formats with less distortion, greater dynamic range, impressive signal to noise ration and great headphone output, then consider upgrading you older model uDAC to the new uDSD. With greater capability and improved design, the uDSD provides excellent sound.
NuPrime audio products are high-performance audiophile components that offer sound quality well above their price point. Indeed, NuPrime's other audio products have been reviewed in Soundstage and The Absolute Sound and are considered some of the current best in the audio world, regardless of cost. The most recent DAC-10H and ST-10 combination as reviewed in The Absolute Sound are said to be some of the best audio components reviewer Steven Stone has ever heard, price no object. It perhaps not surprising then, that the NuPrime uDSD high resolution digital-to-analog converter and headphone amp also performs well and far better than it's $179 suggested retail price would imply.
The uDSD is a new "audiophile-grade" DAC/headphone amp, built to connect to your computer via USB. Music is typically recorded in 24- or 32-bit PCM or DSD format at the recording studio and then converted to a lower resolution format for distribution, typically via CD or MP3 download. Those CD quality digital files, are recorded in 16-bits with a sample rate of 44.1 kHz, but PCM-encoded WAV audio files stored on a computer's hard drive might have a resolution of up to 24-bit/192 kHz or beyond.
The uDSD is certainly capable of supporting the latest high resolution digital music formats at up to 24-bit/384 kHz, but is also capable of native Direct-Stream Digital (DSD) decoding up to DSD 256 (Quad-DSD). This small device is capable of decoding virtually any known high resolution audio format in either PCM or DSD. An increasing number of download sites provide both high-resolution PCM and DSD in a number of sample rates but with the uDSD, you will be able to play them all. DSD, which was originally designed as an archival format for studios, has been making a comeback in recent years thanks to the introduction of computer audio systems.
The headphone circuit of the NuPrime uDSD offers a stereo output of 140 mW at 32 ohms, which is more than ample for most of today's headphones, a dynamic range of 98 dB, signal-to-noise ratio of 112 dB and total harmonic distortion of less than 0.01 percent. With these impressive specifications, the NuPrime uDSD can outperform all comparable products offered on today's market. As a start to a new desktop, an office headphone stereo, a home audio system or as an upgrade to those who love the original NuForce uDAC, the uDSD offers more in every department.
The NuPrime uDSD is quite small and can easily fit in the palm of your hand or in a pocket to transport it wherever you need your music. It's machined all metal finish is exceptionally good and the quality of the volume control and the connections are fantastic. It's rugged yet nicely finished and it feels solid and well constructed, as all NuPrime products do.
The uDSD comes with Coaxial S/PDIF and 2V RCA Analog outputs for compatibility with a broad variety of systems. With its native DSD-format decoding capability, uDSD is ideal for upgrading existing high-end non-DSD DACs. With the USB port on the side the uDSD is powered by the computer and requires no additional power supply.

Perfect little desktop amp. Nice control. Great build quality. Sounds better than my old NuForce DAC. Recommended A+++
